Let me encourage you that God is in control! Proverbs says:

Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails. (Proverbs 19:21)

Yes, we should seek God's will in everything we do. More importantly, we should seek to follow God in all we do. We should pursue God - to know Him!

As we live our lives, we formulate plans and develop desires. Even though we want what is best... we still make "our own plans." This proverb reveals the truth that God's purpose will be accomplished. So, don't search for the details of God's plans for your life... Seek His purposes!

And trust Him... He is in control!

When it rains...

I have heard the phrase "When it rains, it pours" a countless number of times. I have even used this phrase. This phrase is usually shared from a negative perspective. But, think about it... rain helps things grow. Rain helps to produce and sustain life. I have prayed for God to let His presence "rain" on me.

Maybe that should be our prayer... for His presence and power to "rain" on us. This would bring excitement to the phrase "When it rains it pours."

Could you imagine if God's presence was in your life like a powerful rain storm? The pouring rain saturates the ground. My friend said that he wanted to make God more of a priority in his life. This comment sparked me to share something with him that I have been considering for some time now.

I am learning that, as believers, we do not need to prioritize God. This type of thinking supports a worldview that we are the ultimate masters of our own lives. We can select who and what will be number one in our lives. I feel that when we grapple with this behavior - we are ultimately struggling with "complete surrender" and "whole-hearted devotion" to the Lord.

God's plan is not such that we strive to put Him in the middle of our lives. God's plan is not meant for us to move Him from #1 priority to #2 priority, to #3 priority, and back to #1 again, etc...

Having no other Gods before Him is the context. The reason God is #1 in our lives is not because He is "our" top priority... But, because we are His! God loved us so much that He GAVE His Son to us as a Savior.

So, rather than God being your top priority... let's realize that God is our PARAMETER. Stop trying to make God the center of your life... and start making your life the center of God's will!

God is our parameter! He is the context for our thought life, our behavior, our speech... our entire lives!
It's ALL about Him! So, don't get stuck making God your priority...
MAKE GOD YOUR PARAMETER!

Sir, Yes Sir!

Every person on the planet has needs. Whether we recognize it or not - every person has spiritual needs. The need for salvation, the need for spiritual growth, the need for intimacy with God. We have needs of restoration, healing, provision, guidance; and the list goes on.

Last week as I was seeking God I was challenged to consider how I model the pursuit of God. I strive to seek Him first. My goal as I pray is to honor God, and to know Him more. I also bring my requests before the Lord as I approach the throne-room with boldness.

Again - my thought became: "How am I modeling my pursuit of God?" I want to share one of the truths that God settled in my heart.

Often times we pray for God to do things "FOR" us. We pray for Him to offer wisdom, guidance, provision, healing, restoration, etc... This is Biblical to pray for these things!

However, my recommendation is not only to pray that God would work "IN" me (as referred to above); but also "THROUGH" me.

Do not just pray - "Lord, what will you do in me..." But, pray: "LORD, WHAT DO YOU DESIRE TO DO WITH ME."
We are all soldiers in the God's army. It is as if God is giving us marching orders. What are your marching orders from God? What is your assignment?

We have assignments that are general and long lasting. Some of us have assignments that place us in certain geographical locations - and for decades. However, we also have daily "marching orders" (assignments) from the Lord.

What is God doing "WITH" your life - TODAY?

Let's not just strive for fulfillment - strive for OBEDIENCE. And, obedience (through complete surrender) will produce the fulfillment and abundance that only God can offer.

Kids flock to minister as well as Easter Bunny at fest

Church's Easter event a hit
Kids flock to minister as well as Easter Bunny at fest

April 4, 2010
BY MICHELLE L. QUINN , POST-TRIBUNE CORRESPONDENT

SCHERERVILLE -- The Easter Bunny made his annual appearance at the Harvest Ridge Church's ninth annual Easter Fun Fest at the St. John Township Community Center, but 8-year-old Ricky Paz had more important people on which to bestow his admiration.
Ricky, at the Saturday celebration with Mom Julie and brother, Tony, 4, waited for the Rev. Michael Smith to finish emceeing the affair, then marched right up to him to let him know that Smith is "the funniest man" he knows.
"I came here to see Pastor Mike and have a fun time," Ricky said, gripping raffle tickets as if they were gold. "I won three Easter baskets at other things. Not here, but I didn't really care."
Smith smiled at Ricky's compliment, happy he got the young man's attention but happier the event was still so packed. Close to 800 people passed through the center for games, visiting with the rabbit and finding out a little more about his church.
"This event exposes the community to our church and broadcasts our core values," Smith said. "This is a great opportunity for families to get together.
"Plus, it's a free community event for everyone."
Even those who belong to other churches, like Nathan Stevens, 12, of Schererville. Nathan also sought out Smith, only he wanted to find out about his winnings after he won the cup-stacking game.
Cup-stacking, where players stack a group of plastic cups in various patterns as fast as they can, was a new event added to this year's fest, along with Rascal the RailCat and a visit from Schererville's Police, Fire and Emergency Services Departments, Smith said.
"My mom goes to (another program held at the center during the week), and she heard that there was going to be a stacking contest," Nathan explained. "I won three different times."
Harvest Ridge Church currently holds Sunday services at the Community Center but is working on building its church on 10 acres it owns in town, Smith said.

HOLY WEEK Devotion

Here is the devotional for HOLY WEEK!

The Passion Week…

Sunday: The Triumphal Entry (Luke 19:29-44)
Monday: Jesus curses the fig tree (Matthew 21:18-19)
Jesus cleanses the temple (Matthew. 21:12-13)
Tuesday: Jesus’ authority questioned (Luke 20:1-8)
Jesus teaches in the temple (Luke 20:9-21:4)
Jesus anointed (Matthew 26:6-13)
Wednesday: The plot against Jesus (Luke 22:3-6)
Thursday: The Last Supper (Luke 22:7-20)
Jesus comforts his disciples (John 14:1-16:33)
Gethsemane (Luke 22:40-46)
Thursday / Friday: Jesus’ arrest and trial (Luke 22:47-23:25)
Friday: The crucifixion (Luke 23:26-49)
Jesus’ burial (Luke 23:50-56)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sunday: The tomb is empty: JESUS IS ALIVE! The result of this sermon series is that it has enabled me to be in over my head. What am I talking about? I have chosen to submit to the Lord, and His power, anointing, and leading at a deeper level.

Using Ezekiel 47, and the illustration of the river: I recognize that there are people who have been on the banks of the river just watching. I have noticed others who are wading in the water - and getting their feet wet regarding the things of God. There are others who are knee deep in it all... and it is no secret that they are followers of Jesus Christ!

Yet, there are others who are waste deep. It is at this level that the river of God starts to really take control. Unaware, I was at this level. I was allowing the river of God to move me... yet, the shore was in still sight! I could swim to the banks of self reliance if I so chose. I could dig my feet into the river's floor and try to stand on my own strength.

During this "SATURATE" sermon series God has directed me to go deeper into His presence. I now feel like I am "in over my head."

I no longer have control of the situations I am in. The church I pastor belongs to God! I am but a steward of HIS church as I shepherd HIS flock!

I am drowning in his presence!

I have already invested more time in prayer this week (and it is only Tuesday) than any week so far in 2010. I am SEEKING HIM!!! I feel like the river of God is in total control of my life! The river of His presence and power will take me where I need to go. I am at the mercy of God!

I love being in His presence! I love being in His will! Lord - give me the strength to continue to obey your leading; to be faithful to your calling; and to fulfill YOUR desires for my life!!!

It really matters

Being a man who is spending my life to "Develop Passionate Followers of Jesus Christ" I always get so excited to hear about how people are growing "spiritually."

Well, 2009 is now long gone. So much so, that we now have stories of what God has done for us (and others) in 2010. I would love to hear from some of you about what God is doing in your life!

I was asked the question today, "What is God doing in your personal life?" I was able to share about some of my personal growth plan, what God is doing in my family, and my opportunities to personally disciple several people. I am also enjoying reading through the Bible this year!

Through my private prayer time, God has really been speaking to me on how to lead Harvest Ridge Church to grow... and we have seen results in 2010! We have seen many people seek God at our altar on Sunday mornings. We have seen people rededicate their lives to God, and we have seen people connect with H.O.U.S.E. Groups. God is truly moving!

PLEASE COMMENT ON THIS BLOG, AND LET ME KNOW WHAT GOD IS CURRENTLY DOING IN YOUR LIFE (since January 1, 2010). I look forward to this opportunity for you to encourage others by sharing how you are developing as a passionate follower of Jesus Christ.

God is better than...

As a follower of Jesus Christ, there is a long list of things that you could probably make... and God would be better than everything on that list.
God is better than money, God is better than a position, God is better than life itself!

But, I was reminded particularly today that God is better than my morning cup of coffee.

I love to read the Bible with my morning coffee. I love to walk around and pray with that travel mug of coffee in my hand!

However, this morning was different! At 6:30am I started a one hour session with God. I got involved with Him prior to making my morning coffee. My time with the Lord this morning was especially personal!

After my one hour with God I headed to my weekly Men's Discipleship Group (at Panera Bread). Where I had that morning cup of coffee. We had a great discussion... and time of accountability.

I was so grateful this today that God really is better - better than everything! Thank you Jesus for the joy I experienced this morning as I lived out the truth that you are truly better than my morning coffee.

Let me encourage you to put God first... even before coffee!

Spend time with Jesus before you get involved with your day. If you did not respond this way on Sunday... or you have the desire to respond to God as He prompts you life... it starts with PRAYER.

The Share response helps to Solidify your action. The share response is your act of sharing your prayer commitment with someone else. As the Bible teaches... we are overcomers by the blood of the lamb (through Jesus) and through the word of our testimony...

The share response also provides an opportunity for accountability if you are serious. You can share your response with someone... and be accountable to them to carry out your response.

The Take Care response is your action of living out your response. During this part of your response you will write out an action plan. This plan will include habit changes, behavioral changes, attitude changes and more. For example, if God has provided freedom to you from a bad habit... then your action plan may include replacing that habit with a more productive habit.

I hope this helps you respond to God's movement in your life!

What I want for Father's Day is...

What I want for Father's Day is...

the fulfillment of my 4 children responding to God's plans for their lives. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 17But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

The result of fasting will be a reward. This is why we fast and pray - for God to intervene. When you pray... expect answers.

Fasting and prayer is not like pulling the lever on a slot machine... where the money goes in, the lever is pulled, and we "hope" for 3 lemons. On the contrary! The prayer of faith is certain and full of great hope.

Remember... God does not answer complaint, or wishes. GOD ANSWERS PRAYER!

So, let's see our rewards:

1) to be close to God

I expect a great move of God in our congregation, in the families of Harvest Ridge Church, and in the lives of many people!

2) For guidance as Harvest Ridge Church takes our "Next Steps"

Thanks for fasting and praying for these rewards!

FASTING

Fasting and prayer is life changing. I have heard many stories from people at Harvest Ridge Church who participated in last weeks all church Wednesday fast. Even though there were answered prayers... my favorite news about the fast was common... People shared with me how they felt so "close" to the Lord after the fast. Wednesday and Thursday proved to be great days in the presence of the Lord!

Let me encourage all of you to fast and pray tomorrow (5/13) as well. Seek the Lord, and be close to Him. Listen to hear His voice... and respond with immediate and complete obedience!

If you are unsure of What God is saying to you in a time of prayer and fasting... let me encourage you to continue in your prayer and fasting. Your immediate and complete obedience should take place AFTER you hear from God. Often times God will lead you in a different way than you first expect... But, it is always what is "best" for you!

Living On Purpose

You often hear things said like, "God has a plan for your life" and "You have been designed for a purpose."
These statements are true. And I would like to share my heart about these and similar statement.

When I utter these statement, it is not a ploy to get people to do things at the church that need to be done. It is more of an encouragement to the church (of which YOU are a part of) to live on purpose.
If you were designed on purpose, may I suggest that you get rid of the things that distract you from walking in your purpose. Your time management is a reflection on how you prioritize the purpose of your life.

If you are watching 2.5 hours of TV a day, surfing the net 2.5 hours a day, and working a job... you may not be fulfilling your purpose.
But, if you are spending your time fulfilling your purpose - whether it is at work, in the neighborhood, or wherever you would be... then you will be more fulfilled in life. Life is not about SURVIVAL - it is about LIVING OP PURPOSE!
One example of this for me is this blog. I write this blog to encourage and challenge people who are in my life. Even though I am on the internet... my time spent is productive.

So, let me encourage you to be productive with your time.

Time is a tool that we hold in our hands that enables us to fulfill God's purpose for our lives. How will you use this the tool of time?

SIGNS OF SPRING

Spring is a wondersul time of the year. It is a beautiful display of God's creativity as we can see flowering trees, flowers coming up from the ground, lawns turning green, etc...

Spring shows a "newness" of life that is energizing and exciting. This season provides a word picture of sorts as we consider our own lives:
Are there signs of spring in your life?

Is there energy and excitement in your life? Are you following God's lead regarding the "new things" in your life?

Spring is a reminder to us that we too (as Christians) need to be growing! Spring is a time of growth. It is also a time of working the soil and planting.
So, do you need the spiritual soil of your life to be tilled? Do you need to plant some spiritual based seeds in your life? Do you need to grow?

It is my contention that there should be signs of growth in our lives as believers. I have had several responses from people regarding Sunday's sermon. There is excitement in the air... and I am eager to share with you the other 2 sermons in this series... (for more info - visit www.harvestridgechurch.com).

God has a desire that we live a focused life - remembering what life is about: Glorifying God and serving people. That is why at Harvest Ridge Church we strive to "Develop Passionate Followers of Jesus Christ."

As we learned on Sunday - one of the ways we stay focused is through the commitment of prayer! I hope that this week YOU are in prayer. Are you asking? Are you seeking? Are you knocking?

I look forward to hearing what you have to say about how you are being more focused through prayer!!!

Change

Change is necessary if we are going to grow closer to God!
I recently read 3 reasons why people resist change:

1) They feel it is imposed upon them (they become frightened)
2) They sense too much anxiety or fear (they become paralyzed)
3) They experience no sense of urgency (they become complacent).

These reasons are valid. That is why leaders must hear from the Lord as they lead people through change. Change in the church can not be based on a leaders opinion or feelings... it must be based on the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 43:19, "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland."

This is a verse that helps us understand that God makes a way where there seems to be no way. But, in order to walk in God's plan we must do so through change (new things).

So, do not resist change - unless it is meaningless.... But, rather follow God's plans of purposed change so His will is accomplished in our lives!

SUPRISE

It is amazing to me that as we pray and call on God that the events of our lives do not unfold as expected. One participant had a brilliant deduction of the excuses Moses offered to God in his attempt to get out of the call God placed on his life. As you read Exodus chapters 3 and 4 you can see these 5 excuses:
1) Who am I? Moses is saying that he is not worthy of being called. God's answer was that God would be with Him. (Exodus 3:11-12)
2) Who are you? Moses is stating that people are going to question who God is. God's answer is that He is the "I Am!" (Exodus 3:13-22)
3) So What? Moses is using the excuse that people may not believe what He is saying... And that people will question if God really sent him; or even if God really exists. God's answer is that He will provide His presence (in miraculous fashion) as a sign of who He is... even though it takes "faith" to believe (Exodus 4:1-9)
4) I can't! Moses refers to his limitations. God's answer is that He is the creator, and He is the one with all of the power, and He will go with Moses. (Exodus 4:10-12)
5) Send someone else! Moses asks God to send someone else... God's answer is that Moses would not be alone, but he has been called. And the only obedient response is to GO!

We can all creatively have excuses to avoid serving. We think of ways to avoid God's call. We think of creative ways to avoid whole heartedly supporting the ministries of the church (even when we are part of that "called" body).
I know life is busy, and our calendars are full. I also know that not everyone will (or should) serve the same way I do.
But, I also know that if God calls you - there is only one action to take. It is not the action of excuses. It is the action of complete OBEDIENCE!

So, let me encourage you to reflect on being obedient to the Lord's call. His perspective is much much bigger than our! And GOD IS IN CONTROL!

Taking Steps

I try to be a man with consistency in my life. That is why I am experiencing some unique feelings.
As I lead HRC I find myself changing leadership style, communications patters, time management practices, and much more.

These changes are necessary as our church is walking in "new territory." However, this "changing" is a definite process. It has been impossible for me to simply turn the page on my leadership style. I am still developing the team to lead in new ways. So, I find myself part leading like in the past, partly leading in new ways, and still working toward leading how I need to lead (at the next level).

I am not sure how easily understood these comments are - but, I am grateful that God is calling me to lead - and to lead HRC where He wants our church to go! So, without concern for perfection I will press on toward the prize and keep my eyes on Jesus. If mistakes are a sign of growth - then I must be well on my way to growth! No BLARING mistakes... but there have been some!

My biggest mistake has been my tendency to lead in my "comfortable" zone, and not to make some changes...

So, I will work more diligently to lead through my leaders - and to equip my leaders to lead and communicate.

WOW! It seems as though we are! The interesting thing is that my expectations of this exploration of new territory are true. Not always easy or fun; but true.

As we walk in God's many blessings I find myself not aware yet of the fruitful parts of the land in this new territory. I am not intimate with the pitfalls and thorns on the land. In fact, it is as if I have stumbled a time or two navigating this new territory. However, I am one to get up, dust myself off, and continue to explore.

I believe that this "new territory" is the place that God is bringing our church. Thanks for giving me the grace to lead while muddling into new territory.

I promise you that if you continue to give me the grace to lead in new territory that I will give all of my energy to lead HRC where God wants us to go!

So, the days we are in are exciting. Not always the easiest... but, that really is OK with me. I love walking in obedience to God's plans!

God will provide

I have a friend who is a missionary in East St. Louis who has been quoted in saying, "If it is God's will - it is His bill; and if He sends it - we will spend it."

This statement is really about following God's leading - while knowing that God will provide for His call on our lives.

There are great days ahead for Harvest Ridge Church. Many of the things in store for us will cost a great deal of money. In light of my friends statement (which I regularly use) I thought of a statement that people say: "Money doesn't grow on trees." The irony of it all is that money does grow on trees (paper). And God is the one who made those trees.

Yet, another illustration that everything belongs to God. Remember that we are stewards of what belongs to Him... God has simply entrusted us with resources: time, talent, and treasure. And we all know the words of Scripture that teach us that our treasure is where our heart is...

So, the point of this blog is to encourage you to follow the dreams and visions God has provided for you! Remember that not only does money grow on trees, but God made the trees! No matter your age, experience, geography, marital status, economic situation, ethnicity, background, or any other identifier - there is a place for you at Harvest Ridge Church.
I am grateful to the Lord for providing HRC as a place where people can belong. Isn't it amazing that people are so human? and we are all people...
As I just typed that statement I assure you that HRC is one of those "safe places" where people are genuine - and where we can belong.
We all need a place to love and care for others... and we all need a place to be loved and cared for by others... and that place for me is HRC!
So... thanks for letting me belong with you... and thanks for belonging with me!

in awe

Have you ever been in awe as to what God does in your life? This past month has proven to be one month that has brought me to me knees in prayer. There have been some things heavy on my heart regarding Harvest Ridge Church, and some people in my life. As I committed to pray about such things I have been re-energized in my walk with the Lord! I have not been separated from Him at all... but, in these past 2 weeks I have had some intense "intimate" time with Jesus.

Through this intimate time I have cried out to God regarding the desires of my heart (that He has given me). And I must say, God seems to be providing some pretty awesome things. I look forward to being able to share some things at the right time with all of you! But, let me attest to the fact that when we invest our time with the Lord He has a way of being with us in evident ways! God's provision is awesome!

So, let me encourage you to spend time with God. Listen to His Voice. Claim His promises. And WALK IN FAITH!

Opportunity

We have an opportunity before us. This coming Sunday is an unofficial American Holiday - Superbowl Sunday. I would like to offer you some suggestions on how to take advantage of this day as an opportunity:
1) Before the Game.
Before the game is a great opportunity to invite someone to church with you. Since you will be spending time with people in the evening while watching the big game (or just eating and hanging out...), this is a great opportunity to invite some friends to join you in worship before the big game.

2) The Game.
Join is your church Superbowl party. HRC is having an all church party. Some churches are having parties in their small groups... The point is to go to a party - football fan or not. And... WOW! What an opportunity to bring along a friend or neighbor to a Superbowl Party. This is a great opportunity for your church friends and your non-church friends to interact...

3) What no to do.
Do not have your own private viewing or private party. As a football fan, this can be a temptation - since we really want to see the big game. However, a private viewing results in no interaction with others. An, we would miss an opportunity to develop community among believers... and would miss an opportunity to begin or develop a relationship with someone who does not normally worship with you.

So, please consider Superbowl Sunday as an opportunity to reach out to those who are around you. Notice that this is one of the strategies for ministry at HRC - to reach out. So, enjoy the game and fulfill your God-given purpose.
Come and have a great time, eat some good food!!!

For more info about HRC's Superbowl party, please feel free to comment to this posting with a request for more info, and I will be sure to contact you!!!

A SERIOUS COMMITMENT #2

I am sharing more comments on this topic in order to make an investment in "you" friends who read my blog. There has been much discussion and interaction between many people (through facebook, email, this blog, and in times of gathering) about God's blessings.
Yes, we celebrate giving away a van, large amounts of coats (through Agape Partners), financially assisting people, experiencing spiritual growth...
But, this "spiritual life" we live takes commitment and determination. I recently poster (A SERIOUS COMMITMENT) my thoughts around acting on our commitment to the Lord. I recommended that before your facebook and email time... that you spend some time with the Lord... And there is an entire blog post (HAPPY 2009) to offer some tips on spending time with the Lord.
There has been less interaction and discussion upon my thoughts to pray first, and facebook and email second... My other suggestion was to write out some goals...
So, let me pause once more to encourage you to take your life long commitment to the Lord seriously! Make an eternal investment! The Lord's desire is for you to know Him! To walk in His provision and blessing. His desire is for you to live a fulfilled and fruitful life. His desire is that your faith does not waiver like the sea when things are difficult.
So, we must spend time with the Lord! We must know Him!

A SERIOUS COMMITMENT

This blog post is related to my most recent posting... I believe it is a serious commitment to develop a devotional life. In my last blog posting I referred to developing a strategy to fulfill your commitment to develop a devotional life. This is so important... But, part of a strategy includes being prepared...
Preparing to develop a successful devotional life will include prioritizing. May I suggest the following:
1) Before you email and facebook - make it your priority to read the Bible (and or spend a few minutes in prayer). You may want to log your email, facebook activity, and Bible reading to see a clear picture of how you are spending your time. This will help you recognize if you are living out your priorities...
2) Another step of preparation includes writing (or typing) your priorities. I can't tell you what your priorities are... But, I can encourage you with this helpful hint to help you execute your priorities.

Let me know how it is going! Let me know what God is doing in your life!!!

HAPPY 2009

I wanted to take a few minutes and encourage those who read this blog. 2009 brings opportunity. Opportunity to prioritize your relationship with Jesus! It is time to develop your devotional life. A devotional life is the part of you life that is designated as "you and God time."
Here are some helpful hints for developing or improving your devotional life:

1) set aside a time to spend with God.
This is most helpful. Because if it is not scheduled, it will be easy for you to keep making your time with God a lower priority.

2) Designate a place for your devotional time.
The place may change due to your schedule... although is it helpful if you only have 1 or 2 main places for this... I can talk more to this subject upon request. But, the designated place is another tool for you to succeed in developing a devotional life.

3) Choose a strategy for your devotional time.
- This includes a time frame (how long you want to spend with God; and how often - ex. 5 days a week...)
- This includes a method (prayer, Bible reading, journaling, devotional book, etc...) I can also speak more to this topic upon request.

4) Find an accountability partner.
This by far is the most scary and most difficult. But, it is by far one of the most effective ways to develop a devotional life. This accountability partner can be there to just receive update as to whether or not you are meeting your goals. Or you may develop a rather intimate relationship with this person. The choice is yours... But, you need to utilize this tool! AGAIN - I can speak more to this topic of choosing an accountability partner upon request...

I hope this help some of you. Please feel free to comment, and to let me know if this blog was beneficial. And, let me know how your devotional lives are going!

check out the hrc facebook posting

Dear friends of the voice...

I am sending you this blog to invite you to read the posting regarding the property update. You will find this post on the harvest ridge church group in facebook.

If you are already on facebook, and not a member of the HRC group, please click the groups I am part of, and find the HRC group...

If you need to, feel free to get a facebook account, and join in the fun!!!

I am getting really excited about all of the communication opportunities that the internet provides! What an incredible open house yesterday. We had an incredible turn out this year. People enjoyed our wassail, all of the food, and the fellowship. And people stayed late (about 9:45) just to spend time together and play games. How fun!

I am so excited for the three families who attended this years open house - who even 3 months ago could not call HRC their home. Thanks to the great people of HRC for making new comers feel welcome, and like a part of the church family!

I thank God for the privilege to have people in our home! Thanks to all who came. For those who were not able to come, put it on the calendar for next year. Next year we will make an effort to clearly extend the invitation to all of our church, our family, all of our friends, and even my neighbors.

Continue to celebrate the birth of Jesus as the days of December pass... oh, and see you next year at the Pastor's Christmas open house 2009.

Finishing James

Tonight at our Prayer Meeting and Bible Study at HRC I will be finishing the book study of James (from the Bible). The day is not a celebration of someone's birthday, or an honor to some great person of history. Thanksgiving is a day that was originally set aside by our nation's first president (George Washington). The day was designated as a day to thank God for His blessings and provision.

I am thankful for my wife. Kim is a precious gift that God has given me. And I thank the Lord that she is so wonderful. I love being married to Kim! And I am also thankful that she loves being married to me!

I am thankful for my 4 children: Rebecca who is growing into a compassionate young lady, Jacob who is turning bold for the Lord at age 8, Allison who is very loving, and Andrew who is excited about life (at age one).

I am also thankful for my church family. It is within this context that I enjoy a great job and wonderful friendships. I also love sharing the vision to reach out to people who have not yet met Jesus, and share the Hope that God can offer. Thanks to all my friends at HRC who live to "Develop Passionate Followers of Jesus Christ."

I am also thankful for my extended family. I have great parents, a wonderful sister, great in-laws, and a few non-blood relatives...

I am thankful for the following blessings: health, my home, financial provision, peace, hope, my (eternal) future, my opportunities to impact my community, and much much more.

Let me encourage all who read this blog to take some time to reflect on what you are thankful for. My concern is in the moral future of our country. I see that Obama has been pro same sex marriages and pro abortion. I am sure that senator Obama and I have other moral conflicts.

Sometimes there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel when the USA elects a democratic president as we think about our economy. This time around - I do not think the answer will be provided by a political party. And f it were - the price we pay in moral compromise to relieve some of our countries debt is NOT worth it.

Here is my challenge to believers! Pray for President Elect Obama. Pray that his heart will be sensative to God! Pray for him to exercise God-given wisdom. Pray for our country! I recently received an email asking us to pray for our president elect from election day to inauguration. Join me in this challenge!

Remember that the hope of our country is not in Obama, democrats, republicans, money, dreams, or anything thing else... except for one thing. The hope of our country is in the Lord! There will be worship, prayer, and a Bible study (from the book of James).

However, we will also launch a strategy to pray for the lost. As many of you know, this Sunday was the beginning of a new sermon series: Harvest Time. We learned how to pray for the H.A.R.V.E.S.T. To go hand in hand with the message, we will distribute H.A.R.V.E.S.T. prayer guides on Wednesday. When we vote we need to think about God's will, our families, our children, the future of the country, ourselves (this is where we consider economics, and other political issues).
But, as a Christian we should vote through the eyes of morality and Godly Character. It would be more appropriate to be a country who is struggling financially if we are morally pursuig God.
So, as you prepare to vote, consider God's will... vote on moral issues...
The most mportant thing to do is to pray. Wow! what if the 2 presidential candidate both had major encounters with Jesus before November 4th...
Please follow this link to watch a video about voting from Dr. George Wood (General Sup. of the Assemblies of God): http://ag.org/top/

sharing my heart

I have finally entered the world of blogging. I have set up this new blog to use as a platform to share my heart. I have titled my blog "the voice" since this is where my voice can be heard. I will use this blog as a way to stay connected to people. Feel free to interact with my comments.

I will also use this blog as a way to share information with people: people at Harvest Ridge Church, and people who have regular contact with me. I will also use this blog as a touch point to other pastors, to leaders, and to friends who make an investment in thinking.

This blog will be an inside look at what is going on in my life... and what is on my mind.

I look forward to the opportunities to voice what is on my heart!
